The legend “REPUBLIKA SLOVENIJA” is written on the left side of the coin, from the bottom up, and along the right edge the denomination of the coin in words reading “PETDESET TOLARJEV” from the top down. The year of coinage is impressed on the bottom part of the coin. The reverse of the coin bears an image of a bull in the centre. The Latin name “TAURUS TAURUS” is written above it along the upper edge. The number “50”, expressing the value of the coin, is written along the bottom edge. The 50 Tolar banknote remains legal and valid means of payment. If Slovenia fulfils the convergence criteria and the EU Council adopts the decision concerning the introduction of the euro in Slovenia, the euro will become Slovenian money on 1 January 2007. This means that the euro will become the monetary unit of the Republic of Slovenia, and euro banknotes and euro coins will be legal tender in the territory of the Republic of Slovenia.
